PROVINCETOWN – A woman reportedly suffered a fractured shoulder and foot in a fall at the West End Breakwater in Provincetown early Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters working at Flyer’s Boat Yard were able to reach the scene with a pontoon boat and put the woman in a stokes basket and bring her to shore where the ambulance was waiting. She was then transported to Cape Cod Hospital.

Cape Wide News has reported often on slip and falls at the popular walking route to Long Point. The video above-although long-shows the delicate process of moving a victim from the rocks onto the boat. Luckily the tide was just high enough-and coming in-for the boat to get close. At lower tides the victim must be carried either to shore or to the point to meet a National Park Service vehicle which would then drive the victim to Herring Cove Beach to meet the ambulance. Additional concerns at the breakwater location include the possibility of a victim falling into the water and getting caught in the strong current and/or becoming susceptible to hypothermia.
