Volunteers Needed for Emergency Pet Care

FALMOUTH – When the power goes out during a blizzard or other emergency on Cape Cod, residents and visitors have the option of staying at one of the six Barnstable County regional shelters managed by the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (REPC).

Each shelter is staffed with volunteers and equipped with supplies to care for people and their pets. Pet care at the shelters is provided by groups like the Cape Cod Disaster Animal Response Team (CCDART).

CCDART is looking for enthusiastic, compassionate animal-loving volunteers who are willing to assist when the need arises. To help raise awareness and share information about volunteering, CCDART is hosting two information sessions on January 16, 2016, at Falmouth Hospital.

Held in the Faxon conference room, the sessions will run from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. and from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. Topics will include the regional shelter system, what CCDART volunteers do, how you can help and personal preparedness.

Please RSVP to [email protected], or call 508-348-4147. You can also just drop by to ask questions and share in light refreshments.

For more information on CCDART visit www.ccdart.org or @Cape Cod DART on Facebook.
