Wareham Police make donation for breast cancer research

WAREHAM – Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh and School Resource Officer Karl Baptiste presented a check late last month in the amount of $3000 to Southcoast Health Breast Center in Dartmouth.

The donation was the result of proceeds derived from the sale of pink Wareham PD patches during the month of October. During October 2017, the Wareham Police Department participated in a nationwide initiative titled “Pink Patch Project.”

That included the sale of police and other emergency response agency patches, which were individually designed and colored pink with the intention of bringing awareness to the prevention of breast cancer and overall breast health in women and men.

Chief Walsh praised the overall initiative, which was brought to his attention by Officer Baptiste, who organized the participation of Wareham PD in the project. “We were so proud to make this donation to the Southcoast Health Breast Center on behalf of the citizens who purchased the pink patches and the entire Wareham Police  Department,” he said.

The check was presented to Dr. Maureen Chung and Bridget Flynn, Director of Major Giving & Capital Campaigns during a tour of the Southcoast Health Breast Center on Friday, January 23, 2018.
