Wareham Police recent activity report

WAREHAMFrom Wareham Police: In an effort to keep the public informed of some of the less reported activity of the police department, it is important residents are aware of various problems we face. During the month of December 2018, Wareham Police responded to 38 domestic disturbances, which resulted in 17 people being arrested, criminally summoned, or placed into protective custody. Massachusetts laws forbid the release of any particulars of these incidents. In addition there were 16 calls for suicide attempts or threats resulting in 13 people being transported to the hospital for evaluations.

During the month Wareham Police officers responded to 16 drug overdoses, several in which officers used Narcan, the life-saving drug used on unresponsive patients. The following officers administered the drug during these calls and through their actions potentially saved multiple lives. Of these below listed officers, some used Narcan successfully on multiple calls during the month.

In addition to the police officers who responded, communications personnel at the police station began life saving procedures by utilizing Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) procedures with 911 callers.

Thus far during the first week of January the Wareham Police have responded to 13 domestic disturbances resulting in four individuals being arrested and charged with various offenses. In addition there have been two suicide threat calls, one of these requiring multiple officers to respond to as the person involved was reported to be potentially armed. Officers successfully resolved the issue peacefully and the individual is receiving help with their issues. Lastly, there have been five overdoses in the first week of January, two of which required police officers to administer Narcan. In one of the incidents, Sgt. Henderson discovered an individual under arrest and in custody to be overdosing. He administered Narcan and the person was quickly revived.

Acting Chief John Walcek said, “Regularly officers in Wareham are responding to critical situations, and in many cases saving lives.” He added, “The members of the Wareham Police are a dynamic group of individuals who passionately perform their duties, and I am honored to serve with them.”
