WAREHAM – On Thursday July 5th at 8:57 a.m., Wareham Police began the response to multiple motor vehicle crashes. The first one was reported in the area of Glen Charlie Road and Cranberry Highway (Routes 6/28). This crash was minor with no injuries. A second crash was reported at 9:04 a.m. in the area of 3088 Cranberry Highway, with one party transported to the hospital and another person summoned to court for operating after license suspended.
At 9:37 a.m. Wareham Police, Fire and EMS responded to a very serious crash on I-495 southbound between exits 3 and 2 (see related story here). Wareham Police assisted State Police at that scene. While officers were tied up at that scene, a second serious crash was reported at Swift’s Beach Road and Marion Road (Route 6) at 10:11 a.m. Upon arrival of officers, they found a pole had been snapped, a vehicle was on its side and its driver was trapped inside. Marion Police were called to assist in blocking the road. Onset Fire personnel covering for Wareham crews who were at the I-495 crash, extricated the driver, a 75-year-old Wareham resident and he was transported to Tobey Hospital. This crash remains under investigation.
During the Marion Road crash, one of the Wareham Police detectives who was directing traffic noticed a car being operating by Alexander Ard, 28, of Wareham. Knowing there was an active warrant for his arrest, Ard was stopped and placed under arrest. Ard attempted to to roll up his window after he was told he was under arrest forcing the detective to reach into the car, unlock the door, and remove him from the vehicle. In addition to the warrant, Ard was determined to have a suspended license and will face that charge as well.
