Water rescues in Orleans, Sandwich, Eastham

Stiff breezes led to several water rescues that kept local agencies busy Sunday:

ORLEANS – Harbormaster boats from Orleans and Chatham responded to the Nauset Inlet off Pochet Road after a report of paddle boarders in distress. They were brought into Nauset Beach and evaluated by lifeguards and EMTs but declined treatment.

SANDWICH – Two swimmers were reported in distress some distance off Phillips Road in Sandwich just north of the Cape Cod Canal entrance. Rescue boats including Sandwich Fire and the Coast Guard responded. Luckily the pair were able to make their way to shore and were evaluated but appeared uninjured.

EASTHAM – A kayaker in distress was reported in Eastham early Sunday afternoon. Rescuers responded to the Hemenway Road landing. The kayaker was able to return to shore safely and declined medical treatment.
