Wellfleet ocean beaches to reopen after fatal shark attack

WELLFLEET – From the Town of Wellfleet: “The Town of Wellfleet is opening the four ocean beaches to swimming effective immediately. Those who make the decision to swim should observe the Shark Smart protocol: (1) stay close to shore (2) don’t swim alone (3) don’t swim at dawn or dusk (4) avoid wearing or using anything that sparkles. Please be aware that September and October are prime months for Great White sharks in our waters.”

The beaches had been closed since the fatal shark attack last Saturday. 26-year-old Arthur Medici of Revere, MA was attacked by a shark at Newcomb Hollow Beach. He was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
