UPDATED: Wellfleet, Dennis Police investigating theft from motor vehicles at beach lots

WELLFLEETFrom Wellfleet Police: The Wellfleet Police Department is investigating reports involving the breaking and entering into unattended vehicles while they are parked at remote beach parking lots. The incidents in Wellfleet occurred at the parking lot of the White Cedar Swamp Trail (Marconi area) on November 6th and Marconi Beach parking lots on November 7th. One incident occurred during the daytime, the other at night. The suspect(s) smashed the vehicle’s windows and stole purses, wallets and any items they deemed valuable, that were in plain sight. Similar incidents have occurred in surrounding towns including Brewster and Dennis. No vehicle or suspect descriptions are available at this time. The Wellfleet Police Department urges citizens to stay aware of their surroundings, while parked at beach lots and not to leave any valuables visible within their vehicles. Any suspicious vehicles, persons or activities should be reported to the Wellfleet Police at (508) 349-3702.

DENNISFrom Dennis Police: We’ve responded to a number of smash-and-grabs at beaches and conservation areas in town. In broad daylight, the windows of cars parked at town beaches have been smashed open and items inside have been stolen. In this case, “Lock your cars” is not applicable. If you park your car and walk the beach, (and why wouldn’t you with this great November weather??) please leave valuables at home or out of view. Give these criminals nothing of interest to see.

At this point, we have detectives working on the case, along with detectives from other towns reporting similar incidents. Please stay vigilant and call us if you see anything suspicious, especially at beaches and conservation areas.
