West Yarmouth man arrested for heroin distribution

lauriejeffreymichaelYARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Thursday, a Knock and Announce search warrant was obtained from the First District Court of Barnstable authorizing the search of 9 Vacation Lane, West Yarmouth, MA and Jeffrey Michael Laurie. The search warrant authorized police officers to search for heroin and evidence related to the distribution of heroin.

At approximately 10:20 p.m., members of the Yarmouth Police Department executed the search warrant which began when a local taxi drove up to the residence with Jeffrey Laurie inside it. Yarmouth police officers stopped the taxi and advised Laurie of the search warrant for him and 9 Vacation Lane.   Laurie exited the cab and suddenly and violently pulled away from officers and immediately reached into his right pocket with his right hand. Laurie removed numerous white folded packets which are consistent with illegal drug packaging and threw them to the ground. Laurie then ran off from officers running in the direction toward 9 Vacation Lane and was stopped a short distance later by Patrol Officer Sean Gannon.

Laurie continued to resist being placed into custody by trying to fight his way away from the police officer.  Fellow officers assisted and were able to overcome the resistance and placed Laurie into handcuffs.  At this time Yarmouth Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit Detective Christopher Kent advised Laurie that he was under arrest for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class A substance (Heroin). Found on Laurie’s person was a wallet containing $240.00 US currency and a cellphone. The white folded packets that Laurie removed from his pocket and threw to the ground were recovered and tested positive for heroin.

While executing the search warrant, officers recovered a digital scale and white paper from Laurie’s back pack. The paper matched the paper used for the folded packets of heroin.

39-year-old Laurie was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance. Police say Laurie has 39 prior charges as an adult and 32 as a juvenile. He was held at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court Friday.
