Woman charged with stealing $40,000 of jewelry in Wellfleet

WELLFLEET – Wellfleet Police report that on Sunday, a residential breaking and entering involving the loss of approximately $40,000 worth of jewelry was reported. The victim was not at home at the time of the incident and the residence was unlocked. The location of the breaking and entering was in the downtown area. The Wellfleet Police Department requested the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office who responded with a K-9 and criminal investigator. The Wellfleet Police Department immediately began an investigation and disseminated photographs of the missing jewelry throughout Cape Cod and the Southeastern portion of Massachusetts.

During the canvassing of the neighborhood where the break occurred officers began to receive more information about a suspicious person that was seen entering other homes in the area. Last Friday, the department received three such reports involving a female matching the description given in prior reports. Officers searched the area and located the subject on Mill Hill Road.

The subject, Sharon Butler, 45, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken into custody. The execution of a search warrant successfully recovered stolen items. Based on the facts obtained during the investigation Butler was charged with five counts of B&E Daytime for Felony and one count of Receiving Stolen Property.
