Pofinina M. Gweama

YARMOUTH – On Friday at 9:00 AM, Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers John Lanata, Jr. and Rick Aprea observed the operator of a vehicle texting while driving and stopped her vehicle near the exit 8 Off Ramp in South Yarmouth.

The driver initially lied to the Police Officers about her identity and was charged with several offenses. She was later identified as Gina L. Giovangelo, 26, of Webster, MA. Giovangelo was criminally cited for operating after license revoked, texting while driving and failing to identify self to police officer.

The passenger, Pofinima M. Gweama, 29, of Pawtucket, RI  was found to have a warrant for his arrest from Attleborough District Court for operating without a license and speeding. Gweama was transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters for booking. After completion of the process, he was transported to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment.

In 2010, Giovangelo was convicted of striking and killing 47-year-old Lillian White of Hyannis as she attempted to cross North Street in a wheelchair and then fleeing the scene. The story took a twist when Giovangelo left court while awaiting her case to begin. She was later captured in Wareham.

Gina Giovangelo arrives at Barnstable Police after being captured after leaving court while awaiting trial for MV homicide in 2010.
