New Details: Woman struck by delivery truck and seriously injured in Dennis

DENNIS – On Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 4:47 PM, the Dennis Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a person had been struck by a truck in the parking lot of the 7-11 store at 964 Route 28, West Dennis. Dennis Police Officer Brendan Niemisto, who had been in the area at the time, was on scene quickly after the initial 911 call and began providing medical treatment to the victim.

The initial investigation showed that the pedestrian, a 50-year0old woman from Dennis Port, had been walking through the parking lot of the business when a 2007 International Harvester truck, being operated by a 54 year old man from Mattapoisett, MA, struck her while backing, and knocked her to the ground. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Barnstable Airport by the Dennis Fire Department Rescue and then taken by helicopter to a medical facility in Boston. The last update the department received was that the victim was in stable condition.

The crash investigation is being conducted by Officers from the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcements Council’s Crash Reconstruction Team as well as Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Section. Assistance was also provided by a Criminal Investigations Officer from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
