BOURNE – Bourne Police investigated a report of a wrong way operator on MacArthur Blvd earlier Tuesday,. The vehicle and operator were located on railroad tracks behind Buzzards Bay Train Station near the Academy Drive intersection. The operator was taken into custody.
Update from Bourne Police: On Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at approximately 9:54 AM, Bourne Police dispatch received multiple calls regarding a vehicle operating the wrong way on Route 28, MacArthur Blvd. The vehicle, described as a small black sedan was last seen travelling northbound in the southbound lanes prior to the Bourne South Rotary. One of the callers was able to provide a registration number for the vehicle which subsequently, came back registered to a vehicle matching the given description. A check of the area by responding officers was unable to locate the vehicle at the time.
At approximately 11:53 AM, Bourne Police dispatch received a call about a small black sedan stuck on the railroad tracks adjacent to the Academy Drive rail crossing. Upon arrival, responding officers located a small, black Hyundai Elantra sedan. The vehicle’s registration number matched the vehicle from the earlier call. The vehicle was stuck on the tracks, facing north approximately twenty yards in from the grade crossing at Academy Drive. The operator was encountered by officers and as a result of the subsequent investigation at the scene, the operator of the sedan was taken into custody. The vehicle was removed from the tracks. The tracks were checked by railroad employees who determined there was no damage.
The operator, identified as Kenneth Hautman, 78, of Hyannis, will be arraigned at Falmouth District Court on charges of Operating under the Influence of Liquor, Operating to Endanger, Failing to Stay within Marked Lanes, and Trespass by Motor Vehicle.
