Yarmouth and State Police arrest South Yarmouth man for child porn

lawrencejamesmYARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Tuesday morning, Trooper Robert Smith of the Massachusetts State Police-Computer Crimes Unit assigned to Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) requested the assistance of the Yarmouth Police regarding a Cyber Tipline Report regarding child pornography images being downloaded to an email address registered to a South Yarmouth man.

On Wednesday, Yarmouth Police Department Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officers Christopher Van Ness and Nicholas Ambrosini found where the suspect was living and established surveillance of James M. Lawence, 48, of South Yarmouth’s residence located at 61 Witchwood Road in South Yarmouth and his daily activity.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., Police observed Lawrence (right) exiting 61 Witchwood Road and get into the passenger seat of a vehicle. Police followed this vehicle to a nearby gas station where Police Officers encountered Lawrence.  He denied any involvement.  Armed with a search warrant, his cell phone was seized and soft surveillance maintained.

Late in the afternoon, ICIC was able extract two child pornography images from the Lawrence’s cell phone and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. Yarmouth and State Police returned to the residence and placed the suspect under arrest on two counts of possession of child pornography and transported him the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in South Yarmouth.

The Bail Commissioner set bail at personal recognizance $40.00.  The suspect made bail and is scheduled for arraignment today in the Barnstable District Court.
