YARMOUTH – On Tuesday, Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources (DNR) responded to the report of a baby seal stuck and helpless in a jetty.
A Yarmouth DNR officer responded and was able to locate the seal pup. The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) was contacted and advised. They respond with a team to help rescue the seal.
Under the direction of IFAW, the Yarmouth DNR Officer and IFAW personnel successfully rescued the seal without causing significant stress.
The seal was in good health and data was collected by IFAW.
Yarmouth DNR reminds the public that seals are federally protected marine mammals and persons found interfering with them can be fined and or jailed.
