YARMOUTH DNR responds to 65′ vessel adrift that caused navigation hazard

Yarmouth DNR/CWN

YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources (YDNR) reports that on Wednesday, officers aboard YDNR Patrol Boat J49 responded along with US Coast Guard assets to the report of a disabled 65′ vessel dragging anchor across the Hyannis shipping channel into Yarmouth waters. DNR Patrol Vessel J49 is the only Yarmouth response vessel that remains in the water ready to respond in case of emergencies.

Officers arrived on scene and made contact with the boat captain. US Coast Guard assets from Station Chatham and Station Woods Hole arrived shortly after.

Agencies coordinated efforts and ultimately the vessel was towed into Hyannis harbor by a US Coast Guard vessel. J49 escorted the tow as the area is the main thoroughfare for all vessel traffic including ferries leaving and entering Hyannis.

YDNR commends all agencies involved for the quick action that mitigated a dangerous situation.
