Yarmouth man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

YARMOUTH – From Yarmouth Police: On Friday December 6th at 7:00 pm, Officer Connor Burnham initiated a traffic stop for a motor vehicle infraction. The operator, identified as Dustin Monick, 22, of South Yarmouth initially stopped his vehicle then fled when Officer Burnham approached. After a brief pursuit the operator was apprehended and arrested. During the investigation it was learned that Monick had discarded a black backpack which was located along the route of the pursuit. A search of the backpack revealed that it contained over 600 grams of Fentanyl and other assorted illegal substances. The backpack also contained over $3,000 in cash in various denominations.

Monick was placed under arrest at the scene and transported to the Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters for processing. He was charged with Trafficking Fentanyl in excess of 200 grams, Possession of Class A substance with intent to distribute, Possession of Class B substance with intent to distribute, Failure to stop for Police, Speeding and Failure to Stop at a Red Light.

Based on information that developed after the arrest, Detective Scott Lundegren, Officer Burnham and members of the Proactive Anti-Crime Unit and Detective Division conducted an additional follow up investigation. The investigation led to the execution of a search warrant on a storage container which resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of drugs and money. In total, over 3 kilos of fentanyl was seized along with over $100,000.00 in cash.

Monick was held at the Yarmouth Police Department over the weekend and transported to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment this morning. Monick is currently being held on $250,000.00 bail.

The incident remains open and under investigation.
