lopesericaYARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department is asking the public’s help in identifying two women involved in a significant hit-and-run motor vehicle crash on East Main Street in West Yarmouth a few days ago.

The victim was able to take a picture of the driver before she drove off in a gray 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The driver was trying to hide her face and the passenger is sticking her tongue out. (Click photo to enlarge.)

Update: Thanks to tremendous response to the use of social policing and the YPD Facebook page, police have positively identified the driver and passenger involved in a recent hit and run crash that occurred in West Yarmouth. Within 10 minutes of YPD’s post Friday, a follower notified them of the name of the passenger. Based on that tip, a followup investigation conducted by Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Investigator Mark Noone determined who the driver was and that she had a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant for her arrest prior to the crash. The suspect has not been located and we are asking the public assistance as to her whereabouts.

The operator has been identified as Erica L. Lopes, 31, of Yarmouthport. (right) Once located, she will face charges of a warrant from Brockton District Court for operating after license suspended, and speeding. She will also face YPD charges for the hit and run of operating after license suspended and leaving the scene of property damage.
