Yarmouth Police and School Officials Investigate Bomb Threat

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Monday morning, a threat indicating a bomb was recovered in a bathroom at Mattacheese Middle School located at 400 Higgins-Crowell Road in West Yarmouth.

Mattacheese Middle School Officials and Yarmouth Police School Resource Officers assigned to the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District are working closely with Yarmouth Police Detectives and Patrol Officers to investigate the threat.

The Yarmouth Police Department has seized the note as evidence and is actively pursuing this felony crime. Anyone with information is urged to immediately contact Yarmouth Police School Resource Officer Sean Brewer—who is stationed full-time at the Mattacheese Middle School Police Services Office at Mattacheese Middle School—at 508.778.7979.

The Yarmouth Police Department urges all parents to take a moment to discuss the seriousness of incidents like this with their children.  Massachusetts Law is very clear and powerful regarding making threats like this one.  Anyone convicted of this crime can face up to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
