Yarmouth Police announce new dog walkers crime watch program

ypd-crime-dog-finalYARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department announces the new Yarmouth Police “Dog Walkers Crime Watch” program. As part of National Community Policing Week 2016, the Department has partnered with the Yarmouth Division of Animal Care and Protection, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Yarmouth Neighborhood Crime Watch to sponsor this new program.

The rationale behind this program is that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of dog walkers throughout the community at all times of the day, all days of the week, in all weather conditions, walking their pets.  Dog Walkers Watch trains these individuals how to effectively observe and report suspicious activity.

Dog Walkers Crime Watch is a completely free community-policing program that requires no commitment beyond an individual’s regular routine and helps keep neighbors and the community safer.

If you walk a dog in Yarmouth and would like to participate in this program, please come to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters for a 1-hour training session on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 5 p.m.

Anyone with questions is asked to contact Patrol Officer Mary Gibney at [email protected], Lieutenant Patrick Carty at [email protected] or Deputy Chief Steven G. Xiarhos at [email protected]
