Yarmouth Police Anti-Crime Unit captures wanted felon with 9 arrest warrants

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Friday at approximately 7:30 p.m., Proactive Anti-Crime Unit (PACU) Officers Christopher VanNess and Nicholas Ambrosini spotted a vehicle travelling northbound on Route 132 in the town of Barnstable driving at a speed much slower than the speed limit and the vehicle drifting was all over the road in and out of the proper travel lane.

The Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and noticed the front passenger to lean forward and appeared to reach for something. The front passenger stated that he did not speak English and that he was from Puerto Rico. He initially stated that his name was “Edgardo” but changed it to “Hector Delacruz”. When asked his name again, he changed it again. He was placed in handcuffs as a precaution.

Yarmouth Police Detective Sergeant Kal Boghdan arrived on scene as well as members of the Barnstable Police Department. Police Officers observed a neck tattoo under the male party’s coat. The tattoo on the left side of his neck read ‘Gabriela’. The Officers recognized this tattoo and identified the lying suspect party as Edgardo Ortiz who was the subject of Wanted Wednesday Wanted Person Bulletin from this past summer for several outstanding arrest warrants. A warrant check revealed nine (9) warrants for the following:

  • Stalking In Violation of Restraining Order(New Bedford District) DEFAULT
  • Violation of Restraining Order (New Bedford District) DEFAULT
  • Stalking In Violation of Restraining Order(New Bedford District) DEFAULT
  • Violation of Restraining Order (New Bedford District) DEFAULT
  • Violation of Restraining Order (New Bedford District) DEFAULT
  • Violation of Restraining Order (2 counts)(New Bedford District) DEFAULT
  • Operating of Motor Vehicle with Suspended License (Barnstable District) STRAIGHT
  • Operating a  Motor Vehicle with Suspended License (Barnstable District) STRAIGHT
  • Operating a  Motor Vehicle with Suspended License/Refuse to ID self/Child without seat belt (Barnstable District) DEFAULT

Ortiz eventually admitted his true identity and was placed under arrest. He was transported to Yarmouth Police Department for the booking process and is being held without bail at the Barnstable County Jail in Bourne.  He will be transported to the Barnstable District Court on Monday.
