YARMOUTH – From Yarmouth Police: On Friday May 17, 2019 at approximately 9:17PM, Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of the West Yarmouth Library on Route 28 for a report of a disturbance where two males and a female were fighting inside of a white Chevrolet Tahoe.
Upon arrival in the area, an Officer observed a white Tahoe parked next door to the Library in the parking lot of the West Yarmouth Congregational Church.
Outside the vehicle, the Officer observed a male exit walking towards Route 28. The Officer also observed a female arguing with a heavy set male inside the Tahoe.
The Officer observed the male pick up a silver knife with his right hand and begin to try and lunge towards the back driver door as if he were trying to get out. The male then used the knife to point at the Officer and make a swiping, stabbing motion in his direction.
The Officer observed that the man was screaming, and held the knife near the female’s throat.
At this point, additional Patrol Officers arrived.
The man repeatedly yelled at the Police Officers to shoot him.
The man was ordered out of the vehicle and fought with Police Officers. His attack was overcome with physical force and the use of OC spray.
The man was placed under arrest and transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters. He faces charges of
The female in the vehicle is known to the man and subsequently denied any attack or assault had occurred.
Bail was set at $500.
After completion of booking, the man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department for psychiatric evaluation and support.
The suspect is due for arraignment today in the Barnstable District Court. assault with a dangerous weapon (knife), carrying a dangerous weapon (knife), resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Because of a change in the Massachusetts Domestic Violence Law, Law Enforcement is unable to provide the name of the suspect.
