Yarmouth Police and Fire save three from heroin overdose


YARMOUTH
– From Yarmouth Police: Starting at 4PM on Friday, February 1, 2019 and ending at 1AM, the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to three heroin overdoses in less than nine hours and helped save the users by administering Narcan.

  • At 4PM, Yarmouth Police and Fire personnel responded to a motel bathroom in South Yarmouth and helped save a 32 year old female who had used heroin and overdosed.
  • A 5PM, Police and Fire responded to a gas station parking lot in West Yarmouth and helped save a 29 year old male who had used heroin and overdosed in his vehicle.
  • At 1AM, Police and Fire responded to a home in West Yarmouth and helped save a 38 year old male who had used heroin and overdosed in his bedroom.

In all cases, Yarmouth Police and Fire officials worked together and used nasal Narcan to help revive the users and subsequently transported them to Cape Cod Hospital where they are expected to recover.

Heroin is an illegal, highly addictive drug processed from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the seed pod of certain varieties of poppy plants.

It is typically sold as a white or brownish powder that is “cut” with sugars, starch, powdered milk, or quinine.

The Yarmouth Police Department continues to make significant violent crime and drug arrests and is committed to protecting our community and our citizens as we keep Yarmouth one of the safest communities in the region.

We work in partnership will all Local, County, State, and Federal Law Enforcement authorities to achieve our goals.
