UPDATED: Yarmouth rescue called after report of leg stuck in wood chipper


YARMOUTH
From Yarmouth Police: On Friday at 9:49 AM, the Yarmouth Police Department Emergency 911 Dispatch Center received a call reporting a man being trapped and seriously injured in a wood chipper in the yard of a home on Highbank Road in South Yarmouth.

Yarmouth Police Officers and Firefighters immediately responded and upon arrival found a young man– who had lost a portion of a leg in the wood chipper—bleeding profusely and being treated by fellow landscaping company employees.

A tourniquet was applied and the man was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis by the Yarmouth Fire Department suffering from life threatening injuries.

A MedFlight helicopter was requested by unable to fly due to weather conditions.

The man is currently being treated by the doctors and nurses at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

The Yarmouth Police Department Detective Division is conducting an active and ongoing investigation.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified.
