YARMOUTH PORT – Yarmouth Police report that on Wednesday June 6, 2018 at 6:12 AM, the Emergency Dispatch Center began receiving reports of a break-in that had just occurred on Center Street in Yarmouth Port.
The homeowner reported he was awoken by a noise and observed his son Samuel Duprey inside his garage and run away towards the woods next to his house.
The suspect was wearing a white t-shirt and was accompanied by another accomplice who both fled into the woods away from his house.
Multiple Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers arrived and saturated the area searching for a light blue hatchback.
Patrol Officer Jeff Rivett arrived at the residence and spoke with the homeowner who reported that the window of his garage was broken and his garage door which was previously secured was now open. Located approximately 20 feet away from the side of the garage was a roll of duct tape, a fishing knife, and screwdriver.
Officer Rivett also spoke with a neighbor who reported seeing the suspect vehicle flee the scene and drive through his yard damaging his lawn.
After a short period of time, Patrol Officer Brian Mey observed the suspect vehicle traveling west on Route 6A in the area of Weir Road. Officer Mey subsequently located the vehicle at approximately 6:33A M parked at the gate leading into the Bass River Rod and Gun Club.
Officer Mey affected a motor vehicle stop and ordered both occupants of the vehicle out. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Samuel Duprey who was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters.
An inventory of Duprey’s vehicle was conducted by Patrol Officer Alex Xiarhos who located two pairs of “Brass Knuckles” on the front floor board of the driver and passenger seats. Brass Knuckles are illegal to carry in Massachusetts and were seized, tagged, and placed into evidence at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.
The vehicle Duprey was operating was towed from the scene by Silver Cloud Towing and secured at their South Yarmouth facility.
Duprey, 20, of Yarmouth Port will be arraigned in the Barnstable District Court today on charges of breaking and entering a building, destruction of property and carrying a dangerous weapon (brass knuckles).
