edwardspauljamesYARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Sunday at approximately 12:46 a.m., Patrol Officers Conor Burnham, Jason Batchelder, Paulo Cruz, and Alex Xiarhos; as well as Yarmouth Firefighters responded to 24 Seaview Avenue in South Yarmouth for a report of an unconscious male lying in the road.

Upon arriving on scene Police Officers observed several people standing outside in the road and found a male lying on his back motionless in the roadway.  Police Officers examined the 45-year-old Falmouth man and found that he was breathing but unconscious.

Police Officers conducted an on-scene investigation that determined that the male on the ground was identified as witnesses reported that the victim had got into a fight with Paul James Edwards, who is well known to Cape Cod Law Enforcement. Witnesses stated that they saw Edwards “pummeling” the victim and repeatedly kicking the victim as he was on the ground.

Yarmouth FD arrived on scene and the victim had started to move around slightly but was still not speaking. Yarmouth FD began to render first aid and life support.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Batchelder located Edwards at the scene and encountered him. Police say Edwards was heavily intoxicated, was slurring his speech and was very unsteady on his feet. He also reeked of an alcoholic beverage. Edwards appeared to be bleeding from the mouth and was continually spitting out blood.

Edwards was taken in to custody by Patrol Officer Xiarhos and placed in the rear of his cruiser for eventual transport to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.

Patrol Officer Batchelder followed the Yarmouth FD ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital to get further information on the victim’s medical condition.

Upon arrival at CCH, it was determined that the victim had a serious life threatening head injury and was in critical condition.
