YPD gives thanks for helping hand with K9s

thorYARMOUTH – For over 30 years, the Yarmouth Police Department’s K9 Unit has used Hyannis Animal Hospital now located on Ansel Hallet Road in West Yarmouth to treat and provide care for our beloved police dogs.

Through the veterinarians at Hyannis Animal Hospital, the current three Yarmouth Police dogs Thor, Torres and Satu are prescribed medications as needed. The company, NexGard, is a manufacturer of one of these medications.

Recently, K9 Thor, YPD’s ertified Drug Detection Dog, obtained a skin infection after being exposed to unsanitary conditions during one of his searches for illegal drugs in the line of duty. One of NexGard’s products was prescribed to K9 Thor by Veterinarian Dr. Kevin Smith. Thanks to Dr. Smith and the medication, K9 Thor has made a full recovery.

Dr. Smith informed NexGard regional representative John Bisceglia of K9 Thor’s story and success with the medication. Since then, Hyannis Animal Hospital has prescribed each Yarmouth Police K9 team a substantial and expensive amount of medication absolutely free of charge on behalf of NexGard.

YPD’s police dogs work hard to keep the town and the citizens of Yarmouth safe despite sometimes being put in situations where their health and safety are put at risk.

The men and women of the Yarmouth Police Department and especially their K9 unit are extremely thankful to have a strong support group and appreciates all that the Hyannis Animal Hospital, Dr. Smith and NexGard does for them.

YPD says “thank you” Dr. Smith and Mr. Bisceglia for all you do for their K9 partners.
