YPD PACU arrests alleged fentanyl user

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Thursday at 2:50 PM, Proactive Anti-Crime Unit (PACU) Officer Nicholas Ambrosini observed a vehicle traveling on Route 28 in an erratic manner and conducted a stop on the vehicle in the parking lot of the Speedway at Baker’s square in West Yarmouth.

Officer Ambrosini spoke with the operator identified as Kelli Abb Smith, 32, of South Dennis who started shaking uncontrollably as she searched through her purse for her license and vehicle registration. Officer Ambrosini observed multiple fresh track marks on the driver’s knuckles which is a common area for drug users to inject heroin-fentanyl.

Officer Ambrosini knew Smith driver to be a heroin user who was arrested last month by the Yarmouth Police Department for possession of heroin.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Erica Wenberg arrived on scene and a check of some pill bottles in Smith’s possession found 3 bags of heroin/fentanyl and several Adderall pills with no prescription.

Smith was placed under arrest on charges of possession of a Class B substance (adderall), and possession of a Class B substance (fentanyl) and was transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.

At the station, 3 additional clear bags with a white powdery substance were located in Smith’s possession.

All of the bags were tested at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and tested positive for fentanyl.

Smith was processed and was scheduled for arraignment Friday in the Barnstable District Court.
