YPD PACU arrests wanted man with cocaine hidden on him

Joseph A. Tucker

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Thursday evening at approximately 8:45 PM, Proactive Anti-Crime Unit (PACU) Detective Christopher VanNess patrolled the parking lot of the 99 Restaurant located at 14 Berry Avenue in West Yarmouth.

This parking lot location has been the scene of several arrests for drug possession and drug distribution as well as drug overdoses.

Detective VanNess observed a white Chevrolet pickup truck with Mass plates backed into a corner parking space that abuts the Speedway gas station.

Detective VanNess encountered the two subjects inside the truck. Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers Erica Wenberg and John Lanata, Jr. arrived and secured the operator identified as the owner of the vehicle, Christian Morecraft.

While removing the passenger, a corner cut baggie containing trace amounts of white powder was dropped from his closed hand.

The passenger identified himself as “Bobby Parris.” Detective VanNess has had numerous encounters with Robert Parris and knew this was incorrect information and he was lying.

A Massachusetts EBT card in the name of Joseph Tucker was found in his front pocket.

A warrant check revealed an active warrant out of Barnstable District Court for Felony Larceny over $250.

33-year-old Joseph A. Tucker was placed under arrest on charges of possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) and a felony warrant for larceny. He was transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.

Morecraft had a strong odor an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath as he spoke and a sober friend came to retrieve both him and his vehicle.

During the booking process of Tucker, a small plastic bag was found clinched between the cheeks of his buttocks and dislodged.

The object revealing a corner cut baggie containing a white chunky powder. This subsequently tested positive for cocaine via the TruNarc Spectrometer.

All exhibits were seized and placed into YPD evidence.

Bail was set at $340.00 per the Bail Commissioner.

Tucker—who has 41 prior charges in Massachusetts—was held overnight and transported Friday morning for arraignment today in the Barnstable District Court.
