2014 Heroes: Brandon Prentiss

Lt. Col. Farris Posey Life Saving Hero Award

Brandon Prentiss

You never know when you will be faced with an emergency.

Brandon Prentiss

People were waiting for an elevator when the doors opened a 53 year old man, gray and ashen with no pulse was on the floor.  A minute later Brandon Prentiss arrived.

Brandon, an Eagle Scout and a Lifeguard at the YMCA of Cape Cod immediately began CPR.  He did an initial set of breaths, checked for a foreign object and then gave another set of breaths.  He began CPR and did compressions for another 7 minutes.  EMS arrived and had Brandon continue the compressions while they used the AED and administered shocks.

They were able to get a pulse but the patient remained unconscious.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he remained in a coma for several days, but has subsequently made a complete recovery.

Because of Brandon’s quick response and knowledge of CPR he was able to respond instinctively and quickly averting a potential tragedy.
