A Day On The Water: Whale Watch Aboard The Dolphin Vlll!

Image 17 of 17

Spectacular Whale Sightings off Provincetown, viewed from aboard the Dolphin Vlll. Our group saw at least 20 Humpback Whales (one seen for the 1st time by our crew), a few Minke Whales, some elusive Dolphins, a variety of sea birds, and 2 camera shy Fin-back Whales.  We were in deep water not far from land where the Atlantic Ocean meets Cape Cod Bay and must have arrived at feeding time.  It was a fantastic show to watch as we saw numerous spouts of spray and birds diving around the whales as they came up with mouthfuls of sand eels and other small creatures that are filtered through their baleen plates.

At one point, the Dolphin Vlll was surrounded by whale activity–it’s a great time to be out on the water observing them.   The Dolphin Fleet departs from MacMillan Pier (Provincetown).  A special thanks to the Captain & Crew of the Dolphin Vlll and to the on-board Naturalist Dennis Minsky.  Enjoy this wonderful experience!

As a child, spending summers in North Truro, I thought Cape Cod began at the Wellfleet Drive-In and ended at Provincetown.  As a photographer, I now know that all the Cape towns leading to the canal have their own unique beauty and charm.

Roughly 30 years ago, I had the good fortune to work with the legendary photographer Dick Kelsey and as owner of Kelsey-Kennard have specialized in aerial photography as well as landscape/scenic, portraits, weddings, and photographing events on the Cape, the Islands, and beyond.

Photographs from our Gallery in Chatham are displayed in homes and businesses locally and world-wide.

Besides photography I also enjoy boating/ fishing (fish are usually very safe when I’m out there,) gardening and tennis.  Cape Cod is a very special place and I look forward to sharing my images with you as I travel about.
