A Day on the Water with Dr. Greg Skomal & The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy

WOW! A day on the water to observe Atlantic White Sharks…We motor out of Chatham Harbor aboard John King’s Aleutian Dream with Dr. Greg Skomal, noted shark researcher and expert, and members of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy…There’s a little fog and choppy waters, but conditions are pretty good and our shark spotting pilot, Wayne Davis, flies overhead, and in minutes we are observing our first white shark…Dr. Skomal, on the boat’s bow pulpit, passes his underwater camera attached on a long rod around the shark to get footage that he’ll study later–this is done to all the sharks that are observed.  Some of the sharks dart away while others are more docile…Today we saw around 35 white sharks ranging 8′ to 12′ in size and tagged one ( who’s movements can then be tracked and studied)…White sharks are solitary creatures doing what sharks do in their habitat–swimming and eventually looking for food…Thanks to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, Dr Skomal and John King for allowing me to take a peek inside this incredible underwater world that surrounds us!

By Spencer Kennard

As a child, spending summers in North Truro, I thought Cape Cod began at the Wellfleet Drive-In and ended at Provincetown.  As a photographer, I now know that all the Cape towns leading to the canal have their own unique beauty and charm.

Roughly 30 years ago, I had the good fortune to work with the legendary photographer Dick Kelsey and as owner of Kelsey-Kennard have specialized in aerial photography as well as landscape/scenic, portraits, weddings, and photographing events on the Cape, the Islands, and beyond.

Photographs from our Gallery in Chatham are displayed in homes and businesses locally and world-wide.

Besides photography I also enjoy boating/ fishing (fish are usually very safe when I’m out there,) gardening and tennis.  Cape Cod is a very special place and I look forward to sharing my images with you as I travel about.
