Falmouth Police respond to barricaded man Friday night

Falmouth Police Department

Barricaded subject with a firearm
On December 9, 2016, at approximately 8:09 PM, the Falmouth Police Department received a 911 call reporting there was an intoxicated male barricaded in his bedroom with a firearm. It was initially reported that the male made indirect threats to commit suicide. Officers arrived at the Teaticket Highway residence and spoke with the calling party. Once the residence was evacuated, officers were able to interview witnesses who stated the male was heavily intoxicated and holding a pistol to his head.
Officers evacuated the neighbors in close proximity, shut down a portion of the roadway, and contacted the male via cellular phone. The male refused to surrender and continued to make suicidal statements. The Upper Cape Special Response Team (Falmouth Police and Barnstable County Sheriffs Dept.) responded to assist. After all attempts at negotiations failed, the SRT team made entry into the residence. Upon making entry, the officers attempted to use less lethal measures to gain compliance. The male pointed the hand gun at the officers and was subsequently shot. The male subject suffered a single gunshot wound to his hip area and was transported to Falmouth Hospital by ambulance for treatment. He was later transferred to a Boston hospital for further treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
The subject is being charged with the following:
1. Assault by means of a dangerous weapon
2. Unlawful possession of a firearm
3. Unlawful possession of ammunition
4. Firearm violation with 1 prior violent crime
The State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office is conducting an inquiry into the officer involved shooting.
No further comment will be made at this time by the Falmouth Police Department regarding this incident.
