05c92ab1-b117-458f-a8bf-c262634898a7The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has named local painter Jo Ann Ritter as this year’s guest artist for the 26th Annual Cape Cod Five Pops in the Park concert on Saturday, August 22, 2015, from 7 pm to 9 pm at Eldredge Park in Orleans featuring the Cape Symphony conducted by Artistic Director, Jung-Ho Pak.

Ritter has been commissioned to create this year’s commemorative painting and limited edition lithograph, which will be unveiled at a reception in her honor Tuesday June 23rd as part of the Orleans Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event at The Farm on Rock Harbor Road in Orleans starting at
5:30pm.

“According to David Kaplan, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation, “Jo Ann’s paintings depicting outdoor scenes both on Cape and off not only capture a moment but also a mood, so no doubt her Pops piece will epitomize Cape Cod and the depth of emotion music can evoke. I look forward to seeing her finished piece at the June 23rd unveiling and at our auction on August 18th.”

Jo Ann Ritter is a traditional plein-air painter whose love of color is the driving force behind her paintings. Depending on the subject, her work crosses over the line of representational art into colorful impressionism, using brush strokes and color to make an emotional impact.

Ritter began her art education at Penn State and Syracuse University. She attended the Museum School in Boston and studied with nationally known painters, including portraiture with Clement Micarelli, landscape painting with Don Stone, a member of the National Academy of Art, David Leffel, Charles Sovek, and Colorado painters Skip Whitcomb and Kim English.

Ritter has been recently featured in The American Art Collector Magazine as an artist whose work is highly collectable. She is the recipient of numerous awards and her work is collected internationally. She is affiliated with the Copley Society of Art in Boston, Hudson Valley Art Association, Cape Cod Art Association, Chatham Creative Arts Center and Oil Painters of America. She is currently represented by Gallery Antonia in Chatham run by Domonic Boreffi.

Proceeds from the August concert enable the Arts Foundation to fulfill its mission to support, promote, and celebrate arts and culture of Cape Cod. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Barnstable County’s regional arts agency, provides artistic, cultural, and educational programs with an emphasis on supporting arts education initiatives, individual artists, and cultural organizations.
