Powerball Fever! What Would You Do If You Won?

Powerball Fever grips Cape Cod.

Powerball Fever grips Cape Cod.

Ever thought about what life would be like if you won tonight’s $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot of all jackpots? Of course you have! Everyone has, well except maybe Taylor Swift or Gisele Bundchen, but they have enough money….

We decided to hit the streets – and the convenience stores — to see what Cape Codders were dreaming about buying if they managed to beat the odds and score the windfall.
“The first thing I’d spend my money on is a very expensive dinner in the fanciest restaurant I could find with all of my friends,” said August Cruz, a 19 year old sophomore at Cape Cod Community College who was playing the lottery for the first time ever at the Centerville 7-Eleven.

Apres expensive dinner, Cruz said he’d take care of his two best friends, his grandma and his uncle, then he’d use the remaining money to open up a national program that would provide shelter for teens in need and be LGBTQ friendly. Cruz, the vice president of the LGBTQ club at four Cs, describe the shelter as, “basically a place with arts, a skate park, shelter, and a program to help teens find jobs and health care.”

Bravo, August!

Riley Grace, 18, and her mother Patricia Grace, 42, were playing different numbers to increase their family’s chance of winning. As any good daughter would, (at least with her mom standing right there) Riley said the first thing she do with the money is, “buy my mom a house in Hawaii.”

After that, Riley would quit her job, never work again, move to another country and live a quiet modest life. Sounds like a pretty good plan to me. Except for the modest part….
Riley’s mom said the first thing she would do is tell off her boss, quit her job and pay off all of her bills. The remainder of the money would go towards her children’s college funds, a house in Hawaii for the winter, and after putting some away in her savings, she would donate the rest to the American Diabetes Association, and some to the Wounded Warrior Project because her husband is a veteran.

It’s nice to know there are so many charitable Cape Cod dreamers!

Personally, if I won the billion, I’d put aside enough to go to any college I want, then I’d buy a Tesla model S (my dream car). I’d set aside some more dough for future apartments, houses and whatnot, then I’d travel the world with my sister and best friend, buy my mom a house, save a sizable amount in an emergency fund, and donate the rest to various charities.

What would you do if you won? Did you buy a lottery ticket this week? Who is the first person you’d tell if you did win? What is the first thing you’d buy? Would you donate some? Would you help out your family? Would you tell some people exactly how you feel about them, (hint, hint your boss or that one coworker)? Let us know in the comments below!
