The Question!

Dear Karen,
Recently, I met a friend of mine at a local restaurant. We met early around 4:30 in the afternoon to just get together have an appetizer and get caught up on our lives.

A little before 6:00 the waiter kept pacing back and forth with a scowl on his face…he was visually upset and giving us dirty looks. I asked him if there was anything wrong and he said “How long are you two gonna be here?” It dawned on me that he wanted to turn over the table…we obviously weren’t spending that much money and he was irritated.

So we immediately paid the bill and left. I’ve been stewing over this situation for days. I hate complaining about anything but this guy was not only rude but he was scary…I will never go back to this restaurant.

Do you think I should call the owner or manager and let them know how we were treated?

Karen’s Answer!

Ginny,
I definitely think you should call the owner or manager of the restaurant. The waiter should have never made you feel uncomfortable. That is unacceptable. I do understand that waiters and waitresses work mostly for tips and they want to turn the tables over as quickly as they can to make money but giving you dirty looks and saying “how long are you gonna be here” is clearly out of line.

I’m sure the manager would want to know about your unpleasant dining experience. This is probably the kind of employee he would not want representing his restaurant so he has every right to be informed.

Thank you for your email. Please let me know what you end up doing.
Karen
