Bracelets and Back to School

Here we are, back to school, and although there are numerous topics to focus on like: the super cute first day of school pictures, or the sky-high cost of back to school clothes, or that my oldest wants to have a “lunch feedback” chat because her lunches are too healthy, my mind keeps focusing on bracelets.

I’m sure that by now you know that I’m a fan of Pinterest. How can you not love Pinterest? Your one-stop for recipes, design ideas, health & fitness, tutorials, and all around ‘why didn’t I think of that’ inspiration. Judging from my boards, I’m big on: food, holidays, general things I need to know and ideas for the kids. Back-to-school time is a goldmine of cute ideas for teachers, first days, project ideas, lunchbox inspiration and in this case, Mom & Me bracelets. I stumbled on the Mom & Me first day of school bracelets and knew I’d found my project. What a cute idea! Matching ‘I’m thinking of you while I’m away from you’ Mother-Daughter bracelets. I also love the idea of a wish bracelet; wear it until it falls off and your wish comes true concept, so thought it would be a fun idea to combine the two. Find my inspiration here and here.

I like to think I’m crafty, so I whipped up three bracelets (as a surprise). Nothing sophisticated or polished, they look like craft string and cheap baubles, but my girls loved them. They were so thrilled with the idea that we were wishing for an amazing school year while keeping a reminder of each other in plain sight. It’s amazing what a little embroidery floss and some craft store charms can create! Will these bracelets last forever – no. Are these bracelets a fashion statement – no. Do they symbolize something special between Mother and Daughters – yes. That’s all that matters.

It might be too late for a first day of school surprise, but with a something like this, it’s never too late to show how much you care. It doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant. Or maybe part of the fun is picking out supplies and making them together. My favorite takeaway from this project is to share something special with your kids, they will love it!

Bring on the school year!
