Cape Country 104 April 2024 Athlete of the Month

Riley King is the April 2024 Athlete of the Month, Riley will receive a YETI TUMBLER from Koopman Lumber and $100 Gift Card to Butler’s Sporting Goods! Brought to you by Koopman Lumber.

Here is what Riley’s nominator had to say:
“I am so proud to be nominating Ms. Riley King for the Cape Country Athlete of the Month. After hearing the Cape Country advertisement to nominate a student, Riley immediately came to my mind! I have known Riley for several years now. Her mom and I play golf together in a Ladies’ Nine & Dine League at Holly Ridge, and during the past two years especially, Riley has played quite often with us; so I have spent a considerable amount of time with her on the golf course, at dinner afterwards, and during other social get-togethers with our families.

Riley is truly a remarkable young lady who I have come to admire tremendously. First off, Riley is a better golfer than any of us, yet she always appears humble even when she is far in the lead – somehow resisting any temptation she may have to give us (much-needed) pointers!

Riley is currently a senior at Barnstable High School with an impressive academic record. She is an A student in Honors and AP classes with a 4.59 GPA, and a member of the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the math National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta. Riley is a member of the DECA club and a former member of the Spanish Honor Society. Somehow, she also finds the time to participate in the Knitting Club at school – embracing a deeply-rooted traditional art.

Not only is Riley talented and dedicated to her academics, but she is also an outstanding athlete. She is Captain of the Barnstable High School Varsity girls ice hockey team. Riley also plays on the Varsity Golf Team, and she is a former Varsity Field Hockey and JV Lacrosse player.

In addition to her academic achievement and athleticism, Riley makes volunteering a priority in her life. She gives her time to help develop younger ice hockey players, volunteers for the National Honor Society’s Fourth of July parade, and she participates in the Veteran’s can drive program. She also helps to collect warm clothes with the Key Club, and with her Jansens class, she volunteered her time to create pink shirts to sell at BHS raising over $700 to donate to the Dana Farber Fund. Additionally, Riley is involved with the Indian Ponds Association lake clean up, and the Green club which participates in beach clean up and green closet projects.

Above all, Riley is a kind and caring young lady who exemplifies what it means to be a student who is living a life with purpose, dedication, and strong decision making. Thank you for considering her for Cape Country 104’s Athlete of the Month!”
