Carnival Fun!

For the past 4 years 999TheQ, my partner Ralphie and I have participated in the P-town parade that happens in August…it’s Carnival! The Parade is actually the highlight of Carnival week! This year the theme was “Mardi Gras by the Sea”

I will admit I get very stressed out trying to decide what to wear. Every year the theme is different and every year I feel like I look the same. lol! I must say there is a bit of pressure to really pull off a costume or outfit that stands out. There is a lot of competition! It is amazing how many outstanding get-up’s people come up with…I am in awe every year.

This may sound really ridiculous but…the challenge I had the first year I was in the parade was how the heck was I going to get on the “float” it is literally on a flatbed truck and I am guessing that it is approx.4 feet off the ground. We didn’t have a step stool the first year so we had to hoist ourselves on the float and jump off at the end. Well we learned our lesson…we needed to bring our own tall step stool. So, that is my big contribution. I bring the step stool every year!

It is so much fun being in the parade. I am usually on a float (vs. driving in our station vehicle) the parade lasts close to 2 hours. It goes from east end to west end. There are some exotic floats in this parade…people put a lot into designing them. Most floats have music blasting (just like we do…with our radio station in full effect) some floats have singers actually on a microphone performing.

A few things that seem to be the same every year…lots of beads get thrown out to the crowd and by a lot I mean thousands…I’ve been told there are at least 90,000 spectators every year AND whether you’re a participant or a spectator you’re having FUN! I can’t wait to do it again next year!
