Fall is My Favorite Season

Ever since I was a little girl “Fall” has been my favorite season.  The crisp air, the holidays on the horizon and of course the start of…football season or as my husband would say “Patriots” season!KarenBlakeBlogImage

Well, I’ve had it on my mind for the past few weeks to make a nice homemade apple pie and I finally did it over the weekend and it came out delicious (if I do say so myself…haha)  Although after closer analysis, I would have used 8 apples instead of 6.

I remember one time when my mother made my father an apple pie (she would make him a pie of his own because he had to watch his sugar intake) he grabbed a fork and ate the entire pie in a matter of a couple of hours.  He loved it! I was in awe.  My mother was very old fashioned… everything she made was from scratch.  She would always make her own crust.

When I was growing up my parents loved to entertain. When they would have company my mother would usually make a homemade blueberry pie, lemon meringue pie or an apple pie. Before company showed up at the house…I would say to my mother “now when you serve them the pie…cut the pieces small so there’s some left over for us” my mother would laugh…she would either cut the pieces narrowly or make 2 pies (but she wouldn’t let us know she made an extra one just for us…she would hide it!) She never let her 3 daughters down. The minute company left we would run downstairs to have a slice…it didn’t matter if it was midnight or 2 in the morning. We knew that pie was in the kitchen just waiting for us!

It’s funny how certain foods can remind you of a certain feeling. To me a homemade pie is comfort, love and  warm memories!
