Good Luck To The Cape Codders at the Grammys Tonight — From The Cheap Seats

It’s billed as the biggest night in the music industry, tonight is the broadcast of the 58th Grammy Awards. Did you know there are a total of 83 categories? Of course we won’t see or hear about the majority of them, which is kind of a shame because there are some big names nominated for awards that you may never hear about.
Joni Mitchell, for example, is nominated in Category #66: Best Album Notes.
Category #65: Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package includes a nomination for The Rolling Stones’ “Sticky Fingers (Super Deluxe Edition).”
And Burlington, Mass. native (and iconic funny lady), Amy Poehler is nominated in Category # 55: Best Spoken Word Album!
And speaking of Massachusetts, specifically Cape Cod, many of us will be glued to the TV tonight watching our local hero, Meghan Trainor, who will actually get to perform during tonight’s Grammy broadcast. Meghan is also nominated in Category #4: Best New Artist along with Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Tori Kelly and Sam Hunt. Meghan has received a great deal of publicity ever since “All About The Bass” broke last winter, and we are all hoping she brings home one of those gold statues!

The Cape has another horse in the race for a Grammy – actually two Grammys! I have to be honest; I squealed like a little girl and did a little dance when I saw the guys from the band Highly Suspect were nominated not once but TWICE! The trio who has adopted New York as home are all Cape natives (and former D-Y students) who decided to shake the Cape Cod cover band image and took a big chance a few years back when they packed up and headed over the bridge. They are nominated in Category #14: Best Rock Song for their song “Lydia” from their album “Mister Asylum” which is nominated for Best Rock Album (Category #15)!
Rich Meyer, Johnny Stevens and Ryan Meyer have some tough competition in each category, including
Alabama Shakes and Florence + The Machine in the song category and Death Cab of Cutie and Slipknot in the album category.
I think over the years, the excitement of the GRAMMY awards may have faded a little, but I know I will be rooting for my hometown friends. Good luck ladies and gentlemen! Make us proud back here in The Cheap Seats!
