In the 70’s and 80’s I loved going to nightclubs and dancing to all the fun disco songs. So many of the songs I loved came from the group “Tavares”. I had a special affection for them because they were from New England… born and raised in Providence then later they moved to New Bedford. The group was made up of 5 brothers Ralph, Pooch, Chubby, Butch and Tiny. They originally started out as “Chubby and the Turnpikes” but so many more people know them now as Tavares! They won a Grammy award for the song “More Than a Woman” but I really loved so many of their other songs like…”Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel” “Don’t Take Away the Music” and “It Only Takes a Minute”
I got to hear all of those songs and more last Saturday Night when I was asked to host a private party where they were performing.
They still sound great and they know how to entertain a crowd!
Everybody was dancing and smiling. Most of their songs are upbeat and happy!
I thought I would share with you a video and a picture from the party!
