Have You Been Pronouncing ‘Godiva’ Wrong All This Time?

I used to think that all chocolate was the same, until I had Godiva chocolate. There’s your everyday candy bar chocolate, which is good and all, but then there’s Godiva. It’s the best. There are some brands that come close like Lindt and Dove, but Godiva has them all beat. I don’t even bother wasting my money on other chocolate anymore, because I know it won’t compare to Godiva.

Now, with that being said…all this time, I have pronounced the name of this heavenly brand of chocolate goodness as “God-eye-vuh”. Turns out, that’s not the correct way to say it! Who knew? Certainly not me, ha!

Apparently, Godiva turned 90 last week and a big ol’ celebration was held with Belgium’s Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs in attendance. He revealed that we’ve all been pronouncing it wrong, and that it’s actually meant to be pronounced “God-EE-va”…more like DIVA, and not DIE-VA.

He did go on to say that both pronunciations are acceptable and considered to be correct by representatives of Godiva chocolate.

So there you have it. You and I have been saying it wrong, but it’s all good…”God-ee-va”, “God-eye-vuh”, “Toe-may-toe”, “Toe-mah-toe”…it doesn’t matter, it’s delish no matter what it’s called!

Learn something new every day, don’t ya?!
