I Angered the Facebook Gods

I was locked out of Facebook for two weeks….and I’m still alive!

Apparently, I angered the Facebook gods, because my account was locked and suspended “due to suspicious activity”; no warnings, just *BAM* – cut off! Cold turkey.

I have friends that do a social media fast; meaning they give up their social media accounts: Facebook/Twitter/SnapChat/Instagram/whatever the flavor of the month is to re-center their life and put focus back where focus needs to be. This was not that; it was an unannounced, forced cut off.

I had no idea how often I was on Facebook. I use it daily for my job. I have it up at all times at the radio station to post information (or cat videos) that I think our listeners might enjoy. I rely on it as a secondary tool to communicate with our listeners.

It was torture, I had no idea what people where having for lunch and didn’t know how I’d survive my day without knowing friends every move – I tease, but after a day or so, it was freeing. I didn’t feel obligated to read anyone’s posts, because I couldn’t. If I wanted to know how their day was I could reach out and ask them – what a concept!

It was a nice reminder that there are more important things than Facebook (and social media) in my life, and what started out as an utterly annoying inconvenience turned into a wonderful lesson reminding me that life is too short and too precious. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still be posting to the 99.9 the Q and Cape Country 104 Facebook pages, who doesn’t love a cute goat video? But it’s good to know I can and will survive a social media blackout. Find me on Facebook at Cathy Summers (at Cape Cod Broadcasting) or email me at [email protected].
