I Didn’t Win Powerball And I’m Happy About It, Here’s Why

Everyone’s talking about Powerball right now, because the jackpot is huge! No one won the massive $524 million drawing last night, so now the jackpot has grown to just about $700 million. Sounds appealing, doesn’t it? Think of all the things you could do with $700 million dollars.

I didn’t play the Powerball for last night’s drawing and I never do. The jackpot is just so big, that the chances of winning are pretty slim, so to me it seems like a waste of money. Also, not to be pessimistic, but the realist in me thinks about how that much money would only complicate my life. Don’t get me wrong, like you, I could always use MORE money! Who couldn’t? With that much money though, it would only make my life more difficult. Maybe I could buy a bigger home, a better car, and pay off some debt, and that all sounds great…but I would only create more debt and therefore, more problems.  Just because I won the lottery doesn’t mean my spending and savings habits would change, they wouldn’t!  So sure, I’d own more things and probably acquire more “friends” a.k.a people that magically really like me now that I have tons o’ cash.  It’s a classic example of how money can’t buy happiness.  Maybe I’d be happy for a little while with my brand new material things, but it wouldn’t be permanent.

I’d rather live my normal life where I have a career I love, a car and home that are affordable for me and my family and real friends around me.  I’m happy being your ‘average joe’ without millions of dollars.
