I love office supplies, I mean I REALLY, REALLY LOVE OFFICE SUPPLIES. Some people have a purse full of lipsticks and lip glosses (…ahem…Karen Blake…*cough*), but I have bags, buckets, desk drawers and tubs full of supplies. Pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, hole punches, decorative tapes, fancy cut scissors, you name it, I’ve probably got it. I’m realizing now, I might have a problem.
So, when Back-to-School time comes around, I get a little giddy because of those crazy stock up deals. I have on me at any given time 10 different color pens in my work bag – because some days I might just want green ink or purple felt tip or an orange sharpie. Plus a five-pack of highlighters, a standard pencil and a mechanical one in case the lead breaks on my standard, tissues, hand sanitizer – can you picture my bag??
This back-to-school season, I had to practice extreme discipline. I went shopping armed with my kid’s classroom lists, and promised I’d stick solely to the list. Last year, I tried the online route, it is so much less gratifying than shopping in person. Box stores feed off people like me and put all the shiny, lovely goodies practically an inch from the door so we cant help but browse. Yes! I do need a puppy dog spiral notebook and 10 glue sticks! It was a mental victory for me that I made it out with only the supplies I needed, plus a few extra on the class list to donate. That’s not to say I won’t cave next week, but for the time being, I’m holding strong.
This is the only way I can get through my workday – by bringing the color! Happy Back-to-school shopping!
