I need my Vitamin D

I have been told by my doctor that is very important for a woman especially to get enough vitamin D. She used to test me every year for Vitamin D but she said last year a lot of doctors are not doing that anymore.

I was concerned since she made a big deal about it before. Come to find out it is a very expensive test.

KarenBlakeBlogImageIt’s a tricky nutrient to get enough of. Yes, your body manufactures it when exposed to sunlight, but slathering on the sunscreen—a barrier to wrinkles and vitamin D production—means you may not be getting as much as you think. So it’s no surprise that half of the U.S. population is estimated to be Vitamin D deficient. “Vitamin D is one of the important tools to keeping your bones healthy,” says Carlene Thomas, RDN, LD, registered dietitian nutritionist.

I found this article very informative in Prevention Magazine. Plus, it helps improve mood, immunity, and weight loss. Before you go reaching for the supplements, you may want to try some foods that contain lots of vitamin D!

Some of my favorite foods with Vitamin D are: Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Whole Milk Ricotta Cheese, Tuna Fish (which I will put in my salad) and egg yolks. I know a lot of people just eat the egg whites but the yolks are where you’ll find the vitamin D, B vitamins and antioxidants.

So until the sun comes out and you can get your share of Vitamin D at a beautiful Cape Cod Beach…try some of these foods!
