It’s Official… Summer is Here!

KarenBlakeWell, summer has officially begun! Yeah! I have to say I am a big fan of sunscreen. I go every 6 months to get my skin checked and my Doctor really emphasizes the importance of sunscreen and how I need to becareful of how often I’m in the sun. That’s not easy when you’re on The Cape.

When you pick out sunscreen make sure you seek out a product with an SPF of at least 30 and look for the label broad spectrum. That means it’ll provide protection for both UVA and UVB rays. You should also look for sunscreen marketed specifically for your face…it’ll feel nicer on the skin (in case that’s important to you)

I always wondered whether makeup with SPF really works. Well from what my doctor has said and from everything I’ve read the SPF in foundations and powders don’t really work well in the heat of the summer when it’s extremely hot. Although when the sun is out in the winter…it’s a different story. I should say though…The SPF in cosmetics is better than nothing.

Also, make sure you follow the 2 hour rule – regardless of the SPF level, you need to keep reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours in the summer.

Another important thing when you go to the beach…Have Fun! See you at Coast Guard Beach soon!
