Cape and Nantucket pop powerhouse Meghan Trainor says blame her – not Jennifer Lopez – for working with Dr. Luke on J. Lo’s new hit song “Ain’t Your Mama,” because she was the one who collaborated with Kesha’s nemesis.
Trainor wrote the song and Dr. Luke – who is in the middle of a nasty legal tangle with Kesha over her claims that he sexually and emotionally abused her over a 10-year period – produced it. When it was revealed that Lopez’ big new single was a Dr. Luke production, there was a social media tsunami of criticism.
I felt terrible when Jennifer got all the hate for [‘Ain’t Your Mama’], and it’s just all ridiculous. It’s such a big song for her,” Trainor told Digital Spy.
(It was) not fair on her, not at all,” Trainor continued. “I texted her the song and she had no idea – she thought I did it alone by myself at my house, which a lot of people think, because I do do that.
“I sent it to her and said, ‘Do you like the song?’ and she said, ‘I love the song, my kid loves the song – he’s made me play it five times already so I know it’s a hit – when can I cut it?’ So I said immediately, ‘Whenever you want!'”
“I gave her three songs so far, and [‘Ain’t Your Mama’] was one of them.”
J. Lo performed the song on the “American Idol” finale last week.
Meghan Trainor, meanwhile, is getting ready to promote her second studio album “Thank You,” which will be released on May 13.
Her first single from the album, “NO,” is No. 3 on the iTunes Top 100 chart.
