My Family Bucket List

One innocent lastdayofschool photo collage; that’s what it should have been. Instead, it was an in-my-face reminder of how quickly my kids were growing. My mind was instantly flooded with that ‘you only have 940 Saturdays till your kids are grown’ article, which sent me into a tailspin. How many precious weekends have we already wasted?

You have a few years of infant/baby/toddler years – you blink, and those are gone. Then you hit a sweet spot where the kids are old enough to enjoy weekend activities before, finally, the teenage years, where your sweet cherubs want nothing to do with you (so I’m told). I’m in that sweet spot and, although I say it every year, THIS year we’re going to do something about those Saturdays.

Insert the FAMILY BUCKET LIST!

Why not make a family list of things to do/see/experience? We aren’t jumping out of a plane or traversing Everest. Instead, we’re tackling family-friendly activities. Easy enough concept, right?

IT IS! It can be as complex or simple as you make it. Things like family movie night, family game night, beach days and a camping trip are easy to check off. Feel free to add more ambitious activities too, like take a road trip, take stand-up paddleboard lessons or visit a national park. Don’t forget those teachable moments: teach them to play catch, teach them to bake a family recipe or how to ride a bike.

Only 368 more Saturdays till Aubrey is 18 and 576 for Clara; it’s a great reminder to make the most of them. We’re off to a great start already – the Shining Sea Bike Trail is awesome!

What would you include on your family bucket list? We had so much fun making our list and are looking for other great ideas. Email me your suggestions at [email protected].
